An important milestone discussed during the AGM was the adoption of amendments to the SANATA Constitution. As part of SANATA’s commitment to sustainable growth and good governance, the Executive Committee successfully applied for Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) status with the South African Revenue Service. This status formally recognises SANATA’s work in advancing, promoting, and preserving the arts therapies as a public benefit activity.
A PBO status strengthens SANATA in several important ways by: Exempting SANATA from income tax on qualifying income. Exempting qualifying donations to and from SANATA from donations
tax. Increasing our credibility with funders, government stakeholders, and strategic partners. Expanding opportunities for fundraising, research, advocacy, education, and member support.
The constitutional amendments adopted at the AGM represent the final governance requirements necessary to fully operationalise this status and ensure SANATA remains compliant with SARS regulations. Members wishing to review the detailed constitutional amendments are welcome to contact the Secretariat.
